Radicals — how to read a board
A read of this page, with the plate.

Kapel hung a sheet of functional groups so a student could stop treating a formula as a drawing. Hydroxyl (—OH), the alcohol. Methyl (—CH₃). Carboxyl (—COOH), the organic acid. Aldehyde (—CHO). Amine or amide (—NH₂ / —NH—). Amino acids are an amine plus a carboxyl on a carbon. That is why proline, lysine, glycine, glutamine look like cousins on the wall.
The essential list, revised
The slide said eight essential amino acids in the adult. The list that stands is nine, each with a job-word: histidine (ring), isoleucine (fuel), leucine (fuel), lysine (cross-link), methionine (sulfur), phenylalanine (catechol), threonine (glycine door), tryptophan (5-hydroxy), valine (fuel). Arginine is conditionally essential. You name the job-word.

Practice
In the lab, open each group. Name one of the nine by its job-word. Find the carboxyl and the amine on glycine. That is an amino acid. You are not a chemist yet. You can read.
Check
An amino acid, as a shape, is:
- An amine and a carboxyl on a carbon ✓
- A CX translator, because glutamine belongs on the cascade of this class
- A large-intestine fiber, with TFL, because both are straps of a sort
That is why the boards keep drawing —NH₂ and —COOH. CX is the cover. TFL is the strap.
You use the essential list by:
- Naming nine in the adult — each with a job-word, histidine stands with the old eight — then reading the shapes on the wall ✓
- Parking histidine on kidney with psoas, because both were added later
- Collapsing the nine into glutamine so the cascade has one acid
Nine. Histidine belongs. Kidney is iliopsoas. Glutamine is the next hour’s cascade, not the whole list.
Amino acids on this board are:
- Squeezing the gate until it 'opens'
- An amine plus a carboxyl on a carbon ✓
- Proof of supernatural status
Amino acids — An amine plus a carboxyl on a carbon
A true line on this hour:
- Write a dose so the feeling looks finished
- Amino acids are an amine plus a carboxyl on a carbon. ✓
- Collapse the map into one medical stamp
Amino acids are an amine plus a carboxyl on a carbon.
This hour teaches that:
- A board you invent without her permission
- Arginine is conditionally essential. ✓
- A dose you write from a yield
Arginine is conditionally essential.
Practice on this hour is to:
- A rigid medical diagnosis you must stamp
- In the lab, open each group. ✓
- Inventing a colorful story so the session feels complete
Method before bottle. Trace what the lesson names.
The kicker for this hour points to:
- Living against the tide on purpose
- Functional groups ✓
- A reason to skip permission
Functional groups — orientation, not a dose.
The lab on this hour is for:
- A graded exam that invents the next curriculum
- Feeling and naming what the lesson maps — journal, not a bottle ✓
- A prescription pad for the lab name
Lab is literacy. Not a dose from the yield.
"Radicals — how to read a board" here is best treated as:
- A tourist collection of special experiences
- Kapel hung a sheet of functional groups so a student could stop treating a formula as a… ✓
- A rigid diagnosis tool that replaces sleep
Train with the map. Do not invent a second sky.
Keep this from the body of the hour:
- Increase the drama until something happens
- Carboxyl (—COOH), the organic acid. ✓
- A replacement for the physician
Carboxyl (—COOH), the organic acid.
