Chart 28-4: breathing too much, blood becomes alkaline
Chart 28-4. Too much. Reflex shuts. CO₂ blown off. Carbonic acid to water. OH⁻ builds. Alkaline.CGI copy of her Draw · Atlas keeps the original.
Chart 28-5: not enough versus too much, acid versus alkaline
Chart 28-5. Not enough: CO₂ up, H⁺ up, acid, low oxygen. Too much: CO₂ down, OH⁻, alkaline, high pH.CGI copy of her Draw · Atlas keeps the original.

pH is potential hydrogen. Blood likes a narrow band. Carbonic acid is the buffer — CO₂ plus water, pulling either way. Too much breathing blows off CO₂, the buffer turns to water, OH⁻ builds, alkaline. Not enough holds CO₂, H⁺ rises, acid, low oxygen. Vinegar and ammonia stay off the screen. A number belongs with a physician. Ammonia as another alkaline door — urea cycle, manganese, PABA, arginine as names. Parasites as Course 14. Fungotox stays a name. A child who will not breathe: you stop.

Practice

Name too much, not enough, the buffer. If a child is not breathing, you stop.

Check

The buffer on 28-4/5 is:

  1. Vinegar
  2. Carbonic acid — CO₂ plus water, pulls either way ✓
  3. PQQ

pH is a breath.

Breathing too much:

  1. Holds CO₂
  2. Blows off CO₂ — carbonic turns to water, blood goes alkaline ✓
  3. Is acidosis

28-4.

Not enough breath:

  1. Blows off CO₂
  2. Holds CO₂ — carbonic acid, H⁺ rises, acid ✓
  3. Is PGE-1

28-5.

The band blood likes:

  1. Any pH
  2. A narrow band around 7.4 ✓
  3. Vinegar on the screen

Outside it, the body cannot work.

Alkaline on this hour:

  1. Too much H⁺
  2. Too much OH⁻ — hyperventilation or ammonia as doors ✓
  3. The tree

That's the work.

Acid on this hour:

  1. Too much OH⁻
  2. Too much H⁺ — emphysema holding CO₂ as a picture ✓
  3. Milk

That's the work.

A number on this hour is:

  1. A student panel
  2. A physician — vinegar and ammonia stay off the screen ✓
  3. Q07 reprinting Q01

The stop.

A child who will not breathe:

  1. You prescribe a buffer
  2. You stop ✓
  3. You wait for heme

The stop.

Asks reprinted from 28-1/2/3:

  1. Stay
  2. Cut — this hour is buffer, blow-off vs hold, 7.4 ✓
  3. Become FAD

Path’s cut.

Q07 duplicating Q01:

  1. Fine
  2. Gone — one buffer ask ✓
  3. Krebs

Cut.
